This research project explores the evolution of Asian hip-hop, with a particular focus on Indonesia, tracing its unexpected roots in punk subculture and its powerful role in pushing back against government censorship. What began as a rebellious underground movement has since transformed into a global genre, giving rise to internationally recognised artists like Rich Brian, who now sit at the intersection of cultural identity and contemporary music. This study was born from a personal desire to reconnect with my own Indonesian heritage, while critically analysing how design, music, and resistance can intertwine to shape subcultures that transcend borders. By examining hip-hop not just as music but as a cultural movement and visual language, this project reflects both an academic curiosity and a personal journey ,bridging the gap between self-expression and socio-political commentary t,hrough the lens of modern Asian rap and hip-hop.
